Top Health Policy Think Tank in the World!

Since 2007, the University of Pennsylvania Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program has published a global index of public policy research organisations, and last year we were delighted (and somewhat surprised) to be ranked as number two health policy think tank in the world. We celebrated by sticking a piece of paper to the door of one of the offices in the Institute of Public Health where some of us are based to ensure all passers-by were aware of this achievement.

So imagine the renewed excitement upon the publication of the 2013 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, issued at the end of last month. We are now ranked number one in the world in health policy. Across all categories of think tank, 1950 peer institutions and expert panellists were involved in the nomination and selection process, and 52,000 votes were cast. Rankings were based on 28 criteria, including the quality of leadership and staff, standard of research and analysis, academic performance, reputation, the impact on policy, and innovation. Meanwhile, we need to make a new sign for the door.
